Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that is deemed permanent by the Federal Drug Association in the US. Electrolysis hair removal has been around for over 130 years and it is a permanent process over time due to three main factors: :

Any one can be treated regardless of gender, race, skin or hair colour. Electrolysis is extremely versatile and can work on any skin or hair type. The only exception is of hair inside the nose and ears as well as abnormal skin. Electrolysis is popular for both face and body work among woman, men and the transgender community.

Electrolysis treatment durations are taken on a case by case  basis determined by an individuals needs. A series of regularly scheduled appointments is necessary to reach permanency. Typically, a client would come frequently such as once or twice every two weeks to get the initial growth under control. As treatments progress, sessions become significantly less frequent. Electrolysis requires your faithful commitment to reach desired results. With the amount of money and time spent on depilatory creams, shaving, waxing, tweezing in ones lifetime, it is well worth the cost to get it removed permanently.

There will be a heat sensation when the current is applied. The sensation should not be a deterrant as it is minimal and the end result will be well worth any small amount of discomfort. Overall, electrolysis is tolerated well. For sensitive clients, topical creams are available at local pharmacies.

Localized swelling and redness is to be expected. Most people will see this disappear within 2-6 hours. Aloe and/or tea tree oil will be applied at the end of the session to help naturally speed the healing process. Some clients who have dryer or oiler skin may need to follow extra post treatment suggestions at home. On occasion, tiny pinpoint scabs can form. This is a natural healing process of proper electrolysis on some people. Scabs fall off from one to three weeks.

There is much confusion between what electrolysis can accomplish especially when laser hair removal is so rampant in today’s society. There is a lot of misinformation on both. It is often misunderstood that laser is faster and more efficient, however it is not safe or effective on many people. A well trained electrologist can permanently clear areas in the same time it takes someone to go through 6-8 reduction treatments with a laser.

Electrolysis is the process by which a small stainless probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle.

The following kinds of currents are used:

GALVANIC CURRENT OR DIRECT CURRENT

produces a chemical reaction in the hair follicle. It separates the salt and moisture in the follicle to produce a tiny amount of lye which in turn eats up the root.

Thermolysis or High Frequency Current

produces only heat and this heat will burn the root of the hair and allow it to be easily taken out with tweezers. 

Blend Current

is a combination of both galvanic and thermolysis and produces a wider range of heat in the follicle and is a very effective current for distorted follicles.

Hair goes through a cycle of growth in which electrolysis can permanently destroy hairs most effectively at the “active growth” stage. In this stage they are connected to the blood and oxygen supply that the hair needs to grow. When this is damaged, a new hair cannot grow. When electrolysis is done effectively, a significant difference will be noticed each treatment.

Not all hairs grow straight as in the above diagram. Some hairs have natural distortion such as underarms and bikini areas. Hairs that have been tweezed or waxed can also have this curved effect. More complex electrolysis techniques are used in these situations to produce permanent results. Pulling hairs out by any means must stop once electrolysis sessions start to create the most optimum results.
